No two supervisory control and data acquisition system are the same; however, all operations personnel want the same criteria - functionality, security, data trending, reporting and of course accurate graphical representation of the process.  ZSI strives to ensure each system meets and exceeds the needs and expectations of those who use it, and strives to keep systems up-to-date with industry standards and current security requirements and enhancements such as biometrics.

Whatever the process requirement, having a plan in the form of a simple diagram, a road map, depicting the appropriate strategy in a single P&ID image (below) that can be conveyed to management in addition to operations and maintenance personnel is crucial to success.  Incorporating the strategy into the graphical image used daily by facility personnel (above) reinforces the intended functionality and capability.

Bugs, technically known as autotrophic bacteria are perhaps the most critical organically occurring step in the process of wastewater recycling.  To survive, bugs need air, but they only need enough to thrive, so anything more is too much air and a big waste of energy.  Also, hidden within the process is the potential to naturally remove a majority of the unwanted nitrates and nitrites produced during this process (aka BNR), which can be discovered with some facility specific analysis and modest changes to the typical aeration control strategy.

Operations personnel are best served by interfaces which not only provide them with functionality compliant with the design specifications, but truly represent the equipment configuration and system operation.  Incorporating best practices such as a maximum of 3 steps to perform any given operation and trending which provide historical insight are essential to a well accepted and run system.
